What is The Lands that Feed Us?
The Lands that Feed Us is a spin-off project of The Hands that Feed Us, that is specifically designed to get funding from Telus StoryHive. Our StoryHive project page is here: https://www.storyhive.com/project/show/id/3883, and you can get a quick intro to the project by watching our pitch video below:
“The average farmer will be dead by the time the average farm is paid for.”
Our B.C. food system is in trouble. The people who grow our food — our farmers — can’t afford the land that they rely on to grow our food. A lifetime of earnings from the farm isn’t enough to pay for the outrageous cost of farmland. More than half have second jobs and many more rely on income from their spouses to get by.

What’s the point of all this?
The point of The Lands that Feed Us is to get the word out to the general public about an issue of critical importance to B.C. farmers: The cost of farmland. A productive debate about land access issues is desperately needed — the security of the food we eat depends on it! If we don’t have this debate, we risk handing control of our farms and our farmland to the only people who can afford to buy it: Financial speculators and corporate investors.
Our goal is to ensure that control of our food system stays in the hands of our farmers and our citizens.
